Polly. A Sarah Harris Original

So here is my first attempt. After much discussion with my three year old daughter, her name will be Polly. She is made from tea dyed muslin and stuffed with organic corn fibre. She has a pink dress and purple hair as per request.

I am now preparing to make doll number two for my other little girl, Noa. I think this time though, her legs and arms will be thicker and the whole doll stuffed fuller. It was fun though and i highly recommend it. It is a proud moment when something you have made is lovingly accepted by someone you adore.

Inspired

For awhile now i have wanted to make dolls for both my girls. Not just a doll that would sit at the bottom of a pile of many other soft and cuddly creatures but a friend, a companion and a bed buddy throughout their childhood.

I read books upon books, spent hours browsing the internet and began drafting up this very special little friend. I am currently into prototype number three which i think will be the winner.

Inspired by http://www.jessbrowndesign.com/, i have begun tea dyeing my muslin and have ordered the organic corn fibre stuffing. I have started daydreaming about names...coco blue, strawberry harvey... and am so excited to watch as i bring these dolls to life.

Reason for Absence

So my last post was October.. wow.

Here is the reason for my lack of posting of late. The last few months have been taken up with welcoming little Noa Maeve Harris into our family. She is beautiful and just a joy.

Inda drew this amazing picture of a whale the other day and I was so excited I decided to put it onto a singlet for her using the freezer paper method. And better yet she wants to wear it because she drew it and it's purple!

Homemade Washing Powder Recipe

- 1 cup of Borax (found mine in Bunnings but should be in the drain

cleaning section of your local supermarket)

- 1 cup of Washing Soda or Soda Ash (found in local Woolworths

supermarket)

- 1 cup of Baking Soda

- 2 cups of finely grated, pure castille soap ( I bought Dr Bronners

organic castille soap. Am trying out both the Peppermint and

Eucalyptus bars. I got these from my local organic supermarket).

Had to remind Inda that we were not cooking and that this was not edible!

Today Inda and I attempted some homemade, eco-friendly, fresh smelling washing powder after being inspired by Naomi on her blog (http://omi-creates.blogspot.com). On a gloomy and rainy day where the indoors was sending us all a little stir crazy, it was a satisfying and enjoyable project. I am yet to test it out but will let you know how it goes!
